In August 1998, the U.S. Congress approved the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 that established Local Workforce Investment Boards (WIBs) to address issues that face employers and job seekers in local communities.

The Workforce Investment Board #40 is the governing and leadership body that serves seven parishes in the Acadiana region including Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary and Vermilion. It is an appointed board of community leaders from throughout the parish representing business, education, economic development, community organizations, and government, and serves as a key intermediary between business, job seekers, and training providers.

To provide leadership, planning, policy development, oversight, and evaluation of the local workforce investment system; to lead a comprehensive workforce system that creates greater economic opportunity by encompassing education, economic and workforce development, and to identify available jobs and link the partners necessary to place individuals in those available jobs.

To become a high-value network of choice for keeping our region's economy competitive and to serve residents and employers in the seven-parish Acadiana region by developing a highly-skilled workforce that meets or exceeds the emerging demands of the business sector. Our job is their future. LWIA #40 is committed to making this vision become a reality within the workforce communities it serves.

  • Encourage alignment among workforce development, economic development and educational institutions.
  • Substantially increase employer registrations and OJT enrollments within WIB service area.
  • Enhance current workforce system by anticipating and rapidly responding to employer needs for skilled workers.
